- Kingland Partners Law Firm, a newly established law firm, has chosen to set up its office in the China World Trade Center Phase 3, located in the Beijing CBD. Unlike the traditional image of law firm offices, Kingland Partners has broken the mold by adopting a 100% open and shared office model, pioneering a brand-new way of working.
- In a conversation with the founder, he mentioned, “When I was abroad, I thoroughly enjoyed working in the backyard garden at home: bright light, surrounded by flowers and plants, watching the white clouds float by in the sky. It made me feel very calm and relaxed…”
- Based on the characteristics of the space and the client’s needs, we decided to create a garden-style office environment, with greenery surrounding the space to create a sense of natural harmony.
- Regarding the lighting design, it not only needs to ensure brightness but also form a theme that connects the space. We thought of the “stone paths in Chinese gardens,” with paths made of oval-shaped stones of different shapes, representing the different lawyers in the firm: independent yet collaborative, forming a whole. We applied this concept to the ceiling, giving the space a sense of layers and continuity while addressing the needs for lighting and hanging plants. This creates an effect of “blue sky with white clouds, green trees filling the scene,” just as the client envisioned.
- The entire project is open-plan and requires a reasonable combination of the functions of the reception area, meeting rooms, and work zones. The design needs to consider the smooth flow of space and distinguish between guest and employee pathways, integrating them to make the small space appear rich and layered.
- In terms of color configuration, green is the main color in this case, with black and white as contrast colors to highlight the green. The reception area is mainly in strong contrasting black and white, reflecting the law firm’s simplicity and efficiency. The background wall is pure black, and the ceiling in the reception area has an arched dome with lighting reflecting off the brass lettering, inspired by the Italian modern style of the Bvlgari Hotel & Residences where the founder lived in Shanghai. The meeting rooms are in a gray tone overall, with blue carpets to liven up the gray tone. Phone booths are marked by different colors of sound-absorbing fabric to highlight their characteristics. The office area is entirely white, making the ambiance of the green plants more pronounced.
