- The Ford Otosan Boyahane Offices project marks a pivotal step in the company’s journey toward agile and hybrid work environments. As Turkey’s leading automotive manufacturer and one of the key players in the global Ford network, Ford Otosan undertakes significant innovation in both its products and workplace culture. Situated on its largest campus in Kocaeli, Turkey, this transformative initiative by I-AM transcends the notion of a traditional office, redefining it as a dynamic ecosystem that fosters innovation, collaboration, and employee well-being.
- A Workplace Revolution: Transforming Culture and Experience
- More than a spatial redesign, this project aims to reshape the company’s working culture by prioritizing employee experience. Beginning with in-depth research and stakeholder engagement, I-AM conducted interviews and workshops to identify the needs, aspirations, and workflows of Ford Otosan’s diverse workforce. This user-centered approach informed the creation of a flexible office environment tailored to the hybrid working model, aligning physical space with organizational goals.
- The design centers on five key workplace functions:
- Focused Work: Quiet zones for deep concentration.
- Virtual Collaboration: Spaces equipped with cutting-edge technology for seamless digital communication.
- Agile Workspaces: Open and flexible areas fostering teamwork and rapid decision-making.
- Social Interaction: Inviting communal spaces for casual connections and informal meetings.
- Urban Integration: Design elements that connect the office to the broader urban context, mitigating workplace isolation.
- A Human-Centered Design Concept
- Spanning 1,400 square meters, the Boyahane Offices blend functionality and aesthetic appeal to support a variety of work styles. Individual focus zones, collaborative workspaces, and versatile meeting rooms are strategically designed to enhance productivity and teamwork.
- Natural Light and Transparency
- Daylight optimization was central to the design. Large glass partitions maximize natural light, creating an open and inviting atmosphere. Transparent workspaces balance privacy with connectivity, fostering a sense of openness across the office.
- The ceiling design pays homage to Ford Otosan’s industrial roots, with exposed structural elements and technical systems delivering a modern, raw aesthetic. Storage solutions are discreetly integrated into the design, maintaining a clean and organized environment.
- Materiality and Emotional Resonance
- The design employs natural materials and biophilic principles to foster a sense of warmth and connection to nature. Wood textures, indoor greenery, and a palette of soft pastel hues—accented with dynamic corporate colors—create a calming yet energizing ambiance. Spaces for focused work use tranquil tones, while social zones incorporate vibrant accents to encourage interaction.
- Flexible and Collaborative Furniture
- Agility is mirrored in the office furniture, which prioritizes adaptability and comfort. Shared, reservable desks and ergonomic chairs support a fluid workflow, while personal lockers maintain a clutter-free environment. Employees were actively involved in the selection process, ensuring the furniture meets their needs and preferences.
- Social Hubs and Community Building
- Recognizing the campus’s remote location, the design integrates social spaces such as cafes, lounges, and common areas. These multifunctional hubs promote interaction during and beyond working hours, fostering a sense of community among employees.
- Technology-Driven Efficiency
- Seamlessly integrated digital tools are a cornerstone of the design. Video conferencing systems, interactive screens, and virtual collaboration tools ensure the office supports hybrid working methods and enhances productivity across teams.
- Bridging Functionality and Aesthetics
- The Ford Otosan Boyahane Office project is a blueprint for the future of workspaces, where design responds to the evolving needs of businesses and their people. By creating a human-centered, flexible, and technologically advanced environment, I-AM has helped Ford Otosan set a new standard for agile working in the automotive industry.
