Jumping Sea Tavern - Dazhongsi Branch | M.S.A.A. Architecture | 2023 | Beijing, China
Within the closed and stuffy concrete warehouse, there is only a 7mX3m opening connecting it to the outside world. Above the ground lies the headquarters of ByteDance, with 20,000 young people. The clash between vibrant youth and introverted negativity necessitates the reshaping of the internal and external spatial relationship of the concrete warehouse, infusing it with strong spiritual energy and rebuilding the public life it deserves. Therefore, we chose the most typical spatial prototype of traditional Beijing residences, the "Sanjin Courtyard," as the initial spatial concept. Building upon this starting point, we transformed the originally oppressive interior space into an active outdoor space. We turned the indoor space into a structured architecture, introducing the sense of a courtyard from the outside, making people feel like they are sitting in their own yard when they come here. By dispelling the sense of enclosure, we have created the possibility of rebirth.
