M Moser Associates was engaged by PwC to inspire new ways of thinking in the design of the global professional services company’s new PlayLab offices located in Beijing.
Building on its continued business growth in China, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) wanted to create a new, revolutionary office in Beijing to inspire new ways of thinking and drive innovation. The new workplace sits within the renowned International Electronic Zone, emphasising the business’ ambition for digital transformation by delivering a fun, memorable and immersive experience for all.
Driven to amplify PwC’s philosophy of innovation and digitalisation, the “PlayLab” design concept brings to life a unique user journey on each of the three floors. Throughout the space, flexible working and smart technology has been adopted to offer freedom of choice and support prime performance, enabling users to “self-sustain”. Enabled by interactive facilities such as digital navigation displays, smart sensors, and workstation booking system, the space is designed for maximum efficiency in line with PwC’s business values.
With a core objective to become an innovative, community-centric workplace, the design solution not only embraces flexible working but reimagines vertical connectivity. By positioning the reception area in the middle of the three floors, the workplace enhances alignment, interaction and collaboration. The upper floor features an outdoor sky garden, sparking organic interaction between interior and exterior and bringing nature to this LEED certified, WELL-targeted workplace.
Diverse working arrangements incorporate generous social areas, collaboration zones and rest spaces on each floor, facilitating collaboration and social activities. Complemented by distinct environmental branding elements, including neon lights and hand-painted murals, these functional spaces establish their own unique identities while narrating a cohesive story throughout the space.
