Melbourne lighting designer Christopher Boots’ newly launched IRIS is a refined collection of luminaries forged from alabaster and brass.
The IRIS collection encompasses a series of pendants and wall fixtures with multiple expressions, from the single IRIS Mono through to the elaborate IRIS Complex Array.
“In Greek mythology, goddess messenger Iris bridges heaven and earth. Born of sea and sky, she links gods with humanity, bearing a message of hope and beauty amongst the storm,” explains Boots.
IRIS combines cool alabaster with the warmth of brass, delicately balancing smooth stepped cupping forms suggesting a steady heavenly ascent. The collection converges classical deco lines with contemporary design. Whether a solitary beacon, a clustered collective, or a pattern dreamed by dreamers, a quiet impact is created.
Established 11-11-11, Christopher Boots studio was founded on material and metaphysical exploration of quartz crystal, birthing a signature aesthetic. Exploring relationships between architecture, symbolism and geometry found in nature offers a contemporary interpretation of pattern, structure and symmetry.
All Christopher Boots pieces are handmade with love and care, with a diverse team of skilled artisans. Collaborations with glassblowers, coppersmiths, ceramicists, sculptors, and bronze casters, ensures a commitment to quality and underscores an investigative sensibility, giving birth to an aesthetic often unexpected.
The team design, prototype and build in their Melbourne studios, honouring traditional elements of form, proportion and scale. Marrying traditional and cutting edge materials with various techniques, Christopher Boots creates future antiques designed for transforming architecture.
