The Flos Professional Space in Corso Monforte 15, Milan, was the perfect location to celebrate the company’s new collaboration with world-renowned Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen, showcasing his new stunning lighting structures and fixtures, designed for the Flos Architectural and Outdoor Collections titled Infra-Structure and Casting respectively. The Infra-Structure collection is Vincent Van Duysen’s reinterpretation of a typical Bauhaus design language. It exposes a tubular structure with an industrial aesthetic, creating a network of light within the space. Infra-Structure expresses an architectural composition through its rhythm and sequences. The wide range of directional LED luminaries and pendants for ambient lighting, offers solutions for multiple applications and contexts. The collection is composed of a 24V track using the Flos exclusive magnetic technology for power distribution and luminaries installation. It is surface mounted as a grid with endless possible combinations by placing single or multiple parallel modular lines. Casting is a sophisticated group of LED bollard lights for outdoor installation. The T and C-shaped models feature an elegant double emission of light. Their solid structure is made up of die-cast aluminium base and head, extruded aluminium body and diffusing textured glass. The aluminium alloy used for the die-casting has a low copper content to enhance resistance to corrosion. Aligned with the company’s traditional strategy of developing creative and culturally edgy communication tools, for the launch of the new Architectural and Outdoor lighting products Flos has created a special set of information cards with illustrations by Nigel Peake. To celebrate the launch of the collection at the Flos showroom During Milan Design Week 2016, the products were divided into three categories: commercial, outdoor and residential lights in an installation designed by Ron Gilard. The idea was to define these three environments in abstract way, almost by using only basic colours. The central Infra-Structure system was hung from the ceiling in the main gallery space. Few white pedestals were covered by mirrors. The mirrors reflect the lights above them, allowing the viewers the possibility to explore the system without raising their heads up. On the left of the main gallery, the outdoor pieces, “framed” by large canvases hanged on the walls that are coloured in blue and various shades of greens. Following this, the warmer colours started, representing the domestic area. The orange canvas first, framing another infra-structure element that lights a wood pedestal, then a super warm red coloured canvas that highlights a red glass lantern.
