上海半岛酒店的总建築面积共92,160平方米（地面以上楼层占55,974平方米，地库占36,180平方米），位於上海中山东一路32号，面向著名的外滩。酒店落成後将会是一座15层高的建築物，包括250间客房、叁间餐厅、宴会设施、一间水疗中心、购物商场以及一座独立的住宅大楼。
L 型的酒店地盘面对充满历史韵味的外滩，位处独特的外滩源内、饱览外滩、黄浦江、浦东和前英国领使馆花园的景色。酒店东临外滩，南向北京路，西对圆明园路，而北面则是前英国领使馆花园。
酒店由纽约著名建筑师楼BBG/ Architects 所设计。酒店设计跟外滩的地标建筑的古雅风格融汇一体、互相辉映。
上海半岛酒店的室内设计由巴黎设计师Pierre-Yves Rochon 担纲。其灵感取自上世纪二十及三十年代的艺术装饰风尚，那时期正是上海被视为「东方巴黎」的「黄金时代」。与此同时，酒店的室内设计在古典的风格上细心揉合了当代的元素，并突显「半岛特色」，将在一个温文尔雅年代所营造的传统典雅环境与最先进的现代科技完美结合起来。
预期酒店将於2009年落成。
Hotel Introduction:
The Peninsula Shanghai occupies a site which will have a total gross floor area of 92,160 square meters (55,974 square meters above ground and 36,186 square meters below ground) and is located at 32 Zhong Shan Yi Road (East) with direct frontage onto the famous Bund. It will be a 15-storey building encompassing 235 guest rooms and suites, three restaurants, banquet facilities, a spa, shopping arcade and a separate residential tower.
The L-shaped site fronts the historic Bund within the exclusive Waitan Yuan with views of the Bund, the Huangpu River, Pudong and the former British Consulate Gardens. It is bounded on the north by the former British Consulate Gardens, on the west by Yuan Ming Yuan Lu, on the south by Beijing Lu and on the east by The Bund.
Elegantly designed by celebrated architectural firm, BBG / Architects of New York, the architecture of the building is sympathetic with the historic architecture of its landmark neighbours along the Bund.
The interiors of The Peninsula Shanghai by Pierre-Yves Rochon of Paris are inspired by the Art Deco of the 1920s and 1930s, 'The Golden Age' - when Shanghai was the Paris of the East. At the same time, this carefully balanced fusion of a historic style with elements of contemporary flair will pay respect to the "Peninsula character," that of a classic traditional environment, born in a gentler era, fused seamlessly with the best of modern technology.
The hotel is scheduled to open in 2009.
