From the architect. The Dragonfly DMC Tower focuses on “light”: admitting “light,” blocking “light,” scattering “light,” and adopting “light.” The building is fabricated with a soft inner skin and rigid outer skin as the client requested computational task environment for office. With maximizing the use of site, the center of building remains empty to allow light. This strategy is new experiment in office building design. As the core of office building locates on the edge of each floor instead of center of building, the central void encourages air circulation and admits daylight into a building. The surrounding core allows two layers of external insulation system and double-outer skin controls daylight; it manages direct sunlight and daylight of the central void penetrates into interior office areas.
Relationship: The Dragonfly DMC Tower is a space of “relationship.” The void, full of light, suggests alternative relationships. The transparent void reflects user’s behaviors and integrates with all office departments as one group. The central void office space seems wider than same sized-central core office building. This space motivates users to create new relationship and innovative office environment.
Smart Office: The Dragonfly DMC Tower pursues “smart office”: “my workplace is my office.” The design allows users to relocate their own workspace spontaneously. Each levels of office could be divided into 4 parts and each part is flexible to reorganize for alternative uses. Division-less workplace encourages relaxation-environment within an office area.
Energy: The Dragonfly DMC Tower considers sustainable designs. The 50% of outer skins consist of external insulation system to save energy and custom designed movable façade elements allow the users control to which extent their office is exposed to sunlight and public surroundings. Also the central void encourages both air ventilation and air circulation.
System: The building is constructed out of perimeter tube system, long-span beam system, and post-tension system. The façade system functions as multi-purpose uses, which custom-designed movable aluminum panels are designed for not only public surroundings, but also direct sunlight.
Daylight system: The Dragonfly DMC Tower is environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle: Daylight reflectors on exterior elevator which control daylight of the void, natural ventilation system, and under-floor air distribution system.
