‘club house agora’ rises out of jeju island as a glass pyramid, standing as an architectural balance between the site’s winding natural landscape, and the sea beyond. designed by mario botta, the cultural and hotel programs of the building provide services for tourists of an adjoining residential complex, as well as recreational offerings (including an outdoor swimming pool, sports and wellness facilities), kitchens, resting rooms and a reception area. arranged on a square grid, both in plan and elevation, the entirety of the volume appears as a sequence of cubes which measure approximately 20 metres in length per side. the transparent prism links the indoor and outdoor facilities that flow into one another across a single level, and is positioned on top of a one-storey volume that is clad in lava stone which references the geological composition of its site, blending the architecture with the surrounding landscape.
