Jaime hayon has designed the interior of 'le sergent recruteur', a restaurant located on le saint-louis on the river seine in the heart of paris. the rustic nature of the historic building has been transformed into a modern restaurant interior, which still manages to maintain the warmth and characteristics of the original space.
The eatery's main floor has a brasserie feel made casual and elegant through the use of a neutral backdrop of white stone walls and marble floors, accented by jewel tone green upholstery and drapery, and gold lighting elements. the robust chairs, benches and tables match the bar shelving units and mirror components found throughout, all featuring rounded corner details which give an overall soft and playful impression. the main dining room is separated from the bar area via honeycomb patterned panels which even when closed offers views between the separate areas, keeping the interior open.
An underlit wooden staircase leads guests down into the private dining area whose arched ceilings are suggestive of a cellar.this underground space accommodates ten diners and features a mirror in the shape of a knight - which speaks to the name of the restuarant-and is illuminated by a large chandelier which the spanish designer has conceived himself. behind closed cabinets with glass window inserts cured meats such as prosciutto, and selection of wines are on display.
