简介：Our studio works across architectural, arts, and cultural projects, focusing on design that is contemporary but rooted in a knowledge of craft and materiality, whether it is an art installation, an exhibition design, or a family home.
Established in 2014, the studio has developed a reputation for designing spaces that are calm, comfortable and refined. We work with cultural institutions, companies, families, and private individuals across Australia.
Founded by directors Simon Rochowski, Julin Ang and Joseph Byrne, the practice draws on their experience of working with studios and clients both in Australia and overseas. Our approach is highly contextual, responding to the urban environment and informed by the surrounding landscape.
We work closely with each of our clients to produce work that makes a positive contribution to their lives and to the urban environment. The studio approaches all its work using a common set of values, with projects undertaken in a spirit of curiosity and collaboration with our clients and design teams.
studioplusthree has been widely awarded for its work. In 2018 the studio was nominated for the Dezeen Awards 'Emerging Architect of the Year', as well as selected for the Wallpaper* Magazine Architects' Directory - both publications featuring their selection of the top twenty emerging practices worldwide.
The studio also received the 2017 Australian Interior Design Award for Installation Design, the 2016 AIA NSW Architecture Award for Small Project Architecture, and a Commendation for Residential Alterations and Additions.
As an architectural practice, we advocate for the creation of spaces and buildings in response to their inhabitants and environments. The tactile and atmospheric qualities of a project are key interests of our studio, and we are committed to values of sustainability and long-term thinking within our work.
Our studio is invested in the process of model making, sketching, and testing to explore and communicate our designs. We seek to produce work that is both refined and robust, crafted and contemporary.
As a studio we are inquisitive and collaborative, interested in exploring ideas together with our clients and collaborators. We bring our wide range of experiences to the conceptual design process, relying on a process of testing and feedback to guide our projects.
We believe that we have an obligation as designers working in the public realm to create buildings that are durable, generous and welcoming. We aim to create architecture that enhances the quality of our domestic, civic and natural environments, and look to work with others that share these values.
