HISTORICAL
Hangzhou,one of the Seven Ancient Capital Cities of china,is the capital of Zhejiang province,and its political,economic and cultural
center.Throughout its history,Hangzhou was host to a variety of cultural influences and integration.The Liangzhu Culture,which dates
from about 4,700 years ago,was part of the vital cultural life that produced jade carvings,bronze and stone wares,black pottery and
silk.Hangzhou's transformation from a small state into an economic,government,and cultural center during the Song dynasty lead to a
large scale commercial and population expansion.Advanced silk,printing,paper and porcelain production,together with an elegant
society and culture made it one of the most beautiful and luxurious cities in the world.

Hangzhou is one of China's oldest civilization;one that has developed and transformed into a modern city today.Throughout its history,
the Grand Canal has played a significant part in this transformation.It is the longest man-made canal that connects Hangzhou to Beijing
by linking up with the Yellow River and the Yangtze River,contributing to China's economic boom.The Grand Canal is considered a great
architectural achievement since these waterways are major arteries for Hangzhou's way of life,benefitting and influencing social and
cultural aspects of its people.Although modern-day Hangzhou is an economic and technological center,its people still hold on to the
essence of cultural heritage and local way of life that revolves around waterways and abundant natural wonders.
PHYSICAL
With coastal plains in the east and mountains in the west,Hangzhou's southern location at the Grand Canal,in the lower reaches of the
Qiantang River,gives it a superior position in the Yangtze Delta in southeast China.The city center is built up around the picturesque West
Lake with its many old shrines and temples,romantic bridges,and pleasant vistas.This area is also home to a select few tea villages and
plantations,specifically Longjing tea,which is an important part of Hangzhou's economy and culture.
